Poor Diet During Pregnancy May Have Long Term Impact On Child’s Health, Study Suggests
Royal Veterinary College conducted an experiment using rats. They gave some of the rats a diet full of junk food, and some of the rats were given a healthy diet. The offspring of the rats given the junk food diet tended to have higher Cholesterol with Higher Triglycerides in particular. They had a higher rate of insulin resistance and craved the unhealthy junk food. It did not seem to matter the sex of the rats, they both had a higher rate of unhealthy attributes. Scientists feel the same will be seen in human beings.
Key Takeaways:
- Nutrition always matters for women and their bodies, but never more so than when they are pregnant.
- If you only eat unhealthy foods while pregnant, the child inside your body may suffer nutritional deficiencies.
- Babies can learn patterns while in the womb, including the disposition to crave unhealthy foods.
“The offspring of the mothers fed junk food diets had raised levels of cholesterol as well as higher levels of triglycerides, a type of fat found in the bloodstream.”
