While businesses both big and small continue to take a financial hit as the coronavirus infection rates proceed to soar, there is one enterprise that is still doing rather well for themselves, if not better than ever. And no, it’s not Charmin or Lysol- it’s animal shelters across the country!

As it turns out, social-distancing and living in isolation is an ideal time to find a new furry companion. After all, you’re already stuck at home all day which is perfect for housebreaking a new pet, plus your only excursion outside is a solitary walk around the neighborhood, which in case you didn’t know, dogs love. See? Perfect timing!

Don’t believe me? According to the Washington Post, many Americans seem to agree with this sentiment. For example, Lucky Dog Animal Rescue, who hosts weekly Sunday adoptions services at a local PetSmart in Gaithersburg, Md, says that they use to adopt out an average of about 15 puppies per week. However, in recent weeks due to the coronavirus crisis, these numbers have suddenly skyrocketed from 15 to 40 adoptions per week!

Likewise, The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region in Colorado Springs, Colorado has managed to empty out their cages not once, but twice this week, as quarantiners rushed to find themselves an isolation buddy. On Wednesday, March 25th, this humane society took to their Facebook page to share a heartwarming video, highlighting the tear-worthy fact that every animal had indeed been adopted. 

Of course, it’s not only puppies that are being adopted. Full-grown dogs, cats, kittens, and even chickens are all being rehomed and fostered at astonishing rates. So if nothing else goes right this year, at least we can say that 2020 was the year that thousands of animals finally got their forever home.
