Apparently, People Aren’t Wearing Pants During The Pandemic

Although social distancing has come with many sacrifices, there is a slight silver lining to the collective pause that is occurring globally to help contain the coronavirus pandemic. Suddenly, we have more time to spend with our families, we’re finally being forced to learn how to cook, and pants have quickly become entirely optional.

Even if you’re working remotely and checking in with your coworkers through daily Zoom calls, you technically only need to make yourself presentable from the waist up- and according to Walmart, that is exactly what people are doing.

According to Yahoo Finance, Walmart’s EVP of corporate affairs Dan Bartlett has reported that Walmart has experienced a dramatic increase in clothing sales within the past few weeks- but only in tops.

In a live interview with Yahoo Finance on Thursday, Bartlett reported the following:

“In one of your previous segments you were talking about people with Zoom, and doing those types of conferencing: We’re seeing increased sales in tops, but not bottoms. So, people who are concerned, obviously, from the waist up. These behaviors are going to continue to change and evolve as people get accustomed to this new lifestyle, if you will. And we’re able to accommodate that, both online and in our stores.”

With Bartlett’s promise to boost the production of Zoom-appropriate tops on Walmart’s behalf, it’s official. We are now fully committed to riding out the remainder of this pandemic, pants-free.
