The Tattoo that Stands for the Family You Lost

Joan Bremer is a woman in California who’s been dealing with a tragedy we all fear. Miscarriage is a terrible tragedy. And she’s been forced to go through it. But she doesn’t want to let it define it her memory. Instead, she got a tattoo to remember her baby.

She’s sharing her experience with Today, and what it means to her and her husband.

“I had a miscarriage two weeks ago… And I got this to remember the baby that wasn’t meant to be.

Losing a baby, even if it’s early in pregnancy, is just so difficult… For me, it was healing to be able to speak about it. I know there is a certain silence about miscarriages and pregnancy losses…

But I don’t feel shame that this happened to me. That was one of my motivations for getting the tattoo in the first place — I really think it’s healing to be able to talk about it.”
