Birth Plan Checklist:
Home Birth:
If your Midwife is not bringing the birth kit with everything in it, be sure to verify with them what you need to have already prepared at your home for delivery. Some of the basics include, but are not limited to: waterproof sheets, receiving blankets, and trash bags.
Birth Center Birth:
Be sure you have toured the birth center and are familiar with where you will be delivering your baby. Most birth centers have a small staff so meet as many people as you can so you are greeted by someone you know upon arrival. Your midwife may request you bring paper work with you. Not all birth centers accept insurance so be sure you know that in advance and have any information with you that the center may need. Pack a bag just like you would for a hospital. Don’t forget to have your car seat properly installed before arrival.
Hospital birth:
Be sure you have already toured your hospital and know where to go when you arrive. Some hospitals have a separate entrance for labor and delivery while some other hospitals admit you through the emergency room. You will want to be sure you are arriving to the correct place. Bring your insurance information with you and any paperwork the hospital has requested. Don’t forget your hospital bag and to have your car seat properly installed before arrival.
Labor Tips:
So many people will have advice for you but it is ok to make up your mind for yourself. Some helpful tips to consider would be: Hire a birth doula, create an affirmation banner, and have things with you that will make you comfortable like your own pillow and/or blanket.
Every labor is different and every woman is different. Embrace your birth experience and choose the birth plan that best suits your desires.
