Here’s Why Forcing Little Girls to Hug Is Not OK
Many parents “force” their children into physical contact with other people. We tell our kids to hug their aunt or uncle. We tell them to give their grandparents a kiss before we leave the house. All of that is forced on a child that may otherwise decide they don’t want to hug or kiss someone. If we are forcing physical contact on our children then we are teaching them that they don’t have consent over their intimate actions and that puts them in a predicament later in life.
Key Takeaways:
- Rethink making kids show or give affection towards adults when they may be hesitant to do so.
- Teaching children at a young age to hug people of the opposite sex can possibly be damaging.
- Lessons can be learned at a young age, for example girls and physical boundaries.
“The organization then makes a strong argument that we need to rethink how we teach kids affection.”
