Could babywearing help mothers suffering from postpartum depression?
Postpartum depression plagues many mothers, some of whom may not show outward symptoms but instead suffer on the inside. There are a few disorders that fit under the umbrella term PPMI, or Postpartum Mental Illness, and not all of them have the same set of symptoms. Portage Babywearing’s campaign “No Flaws, Only Human” is raising awareness about these disorders.
It’s estimated that PPMI occurs in up to 20% of mothers, but 85% of women who have it never seek treatment. There is a lack of understanding when it comes to the illness and how to treat it, and No Flaws, Only Human is hoping to change that. Babywearing could be part of the cure.
