Having to Go into Labor All on Your Own
Going into labor, even in the best of conditions, is a highly stressful and exhausting event. But can you imagine having to go through that entire experience, alone? And that means completely alone – not even able to make it to a hospital for the delivery. Because that sounds very stressful.
Megan Whaley had to live that, and then some. Megan is a RN with a specialization in labor and delivery, which at least means she knew what was coming, and what to do. On March 21st, she began having transactions. Already a mother of two and with plenty of experience with this sort of thing, she expected to have more time. But nature waits on no (wo)man, and she found herself alone, in a restroom, preparing to transform it into safe space to give birth. She even managed to call her husband and redirect the ambulance to just stay and help at their home.
