Being a parent in the modern day means letting Facebook and Instagram in on seemingly every other facet of our lives. Most notably, with our children. =And while that habit might be hard to break (who doesn’t love to show everyone the things their kids did today?), it’s one French parents are going to have to kick.

France has very strict privacy laws, including what you can post online. Among them, it is considered a crime to publish details of someone’s life without consent. Even when the person in question is your own child, you could end up facing fines up to $48,000 or even a year in jail.

In France, privacy is considered a much more important right than it’s necessarily considered in America, and that right begins in childhood. As such, they want to discourage posting anything without the specific consent of the person in particular. But this seems like they may be taking it too far.

It’s a good idea, France, but you’re taking it WAY too far.
