#ShareTheLoad
Keeping the house together, clean, and working is a full time job. Literally, people can do it for a full time job. And it can be difficult, especially if you’re juggling a family and a job. But there’s a stigma behind housework that it’s the “woman’s responsibility” to keep the house together. We’re supposed to be better than that, as a people.
But a new viral video – #ShareTheLoad – has been heating up online, and it’s message is simple. In it, a Grandfather watches his working daughter return home and immediately switch to “housekeeper”… while her husband lounges around and watches television. Eventually, the Grandfather realizes his role in this situation – no matter how proud he is of his daughter, and what she’s accomplished, he’s still part of the reason she’s in this situation. He leaves her a note sharing his feelings, and goes home to help his wife with the housework.
It’s an incredibly sweet video, with Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg even calling it, “One of the most powerful videos…” and she’s not wrong.
It’s a simple point (one that I’ve had to remind my husband about more than once), but one that’s worth repeating.
