When you’re a parent, every illness is a potential life threatening crisis. It’s just one of the kind of fears that becomes a thing when you have a baby. And usually, you can calm yourself down with just enough time. But sometimes, those fears turn out to be validated in the worst ways possible. 

One pair of parents (who chose to remain anonymous) shared their story with SheKnows, and it’s the stuff nightmares are made of. They went into the hospital with their one month year old baby, after she suffered from her fourth night of difficult breathing. Believing it was just a cold or sinus infection, the parents were horrified to learn there was something… wrong.

After a series of tests, it was found that their daughter had RSV – which turns out to be the leading cause of low respiratory tract infections in infants. While most children who suffer from it are old enough to recover just fine, it can be highly dangerous to people with weakened immune systems – like babies. This story has a happy ending, where a little girl gets to go home.
