Food Allergies
food allergies are one of the quiet dangers of being a parent. And if you have a son or daughter who suffers from one, it can be nerve racking. You have to be careful about what you buy and where you get it from, what you prepare it with… generally, you have to be careful on a whole new level. And while it’s great that schools want to help with that, it doesn’t help when schools go a little… overboard with it.
A school in Australia has begun a policy of ‘lunchbox policing’ that sees parents ow forbidden to pack fruit such as strawberries and bananas into their lunches. And this is just the newest additions to the ban, which already prohibited soy, wheat, eggs, dairy, seafood and nuts.
Yes, it’s important that we watch out for children, not just our own, and do everything we can to keep them from getting hurt. But is there a line? What’s left to give our children to eat, once we remove so many basic dietary needs?
