The Expulsion Gene
Colman Chadham just started sixth grade in Palo Alto, and was going about his day – when medical forms signed by his parents got him expelled.
When school began, his parents filed out the basic forms that all parents have to fill out at the beginning of the term. When he was born, Colman was found to have a congenital heart problem, one of the side effects of having DNA genetic markers of cystic fibrosis. It’s a rare disease, and one that Colman has never shown symptoms of. But still, the parents shared the information with the school. Some of the teachers realized this, and passed the information on to the parents of another student, who had the same disease.
This is where things get unfortunate – being near another person with the same disease can increase the chances of contracting other viruses. The other parents complained, which led the school removing Colman from class.
So, on the one hand, I get why the other parents were concerned. On the other, what the hell?
