Okay, this is getting ridiculous.

Sonya Henderson let her four year old son play outside their home in Sacramento, California recently. It was 120 from their front door, at the playground in their gated community. But one neighbor took umbrage with this, and alerted Child Protective Services. Now, Sonya is facing actual possible jail time, for letting her son play outside. Even the neighbor who called CPS is shocked at that! To her credit, Sonya is fighting the charges and looking to have them dropped completely, and I wish her nothing but luck with that. “Criminal Neglect” is not the words I would use for any child wanting to play right outside the door.

There are dangers in the world. There are threats and problems and crises waiting to happen. But that’s true in the home, and pretty much everywhere. That’s part of life, is the risk of being alive. But that shouldn’t mean we should confine ourselves inside and refuse our children access to the world.

If your child wants to play, let them play.
