Who Gets to hold the Baby?
The birth of a child is a beautiful time, worthy of celebration. And naturally, everyone is going to want to see and touch and hold the baby. But the question becomes whether or not that should really be allowed.
See, a lot of parents try to sequester themselves and their newborn for a while. Sure, Pop-Pop and Gram-Gram can’t wait to see their new descendant, but it could potentially cause problems for the baby. Germs and disease, plain human error, even necessary time between the parent and the child can be interrupted if the baby is getting passed around like a trophy.
But it really comes down to the parents and what they feel comfortable with. There might be a religious or cultural reason, or they might just want to keep things tight for a while. The important thing to remember is that it comes down to them to determine if babies are being held by anyone else.
