Beware the Threenager
You’ve heard about the different phases of childhood: separation anxiety, the terrible twos, and now, the threenager. No matter how wonderful your child is, how smart, independent, or funny, there is something unforgettable about the period of threenagehood. What exactly is a threenager, you may ask? This is a period in a child’s life when he or she acts like a teenager, but without the benefit of logic and reason. Behavior in a threenager is controlled by an inability to control emotions. Teachable moments are quickly replaced with exit strategies in favor of keeping everyone’s sanity intact. Why do they act like this? This is the beginning of their assertion of independence.
