The Surprisingly Sad Season of Summer
Remember being a kid, and not having to worry about anything over the course of summer? Wasn’t that just the best? But being a Mom means changing priorities. It means letting things go. And sometimes, this season can be stressful.
Some mothers have been sharing stories of their surprisingly sad summers with babycenter Blog, and it’s heartbreaking.
“Child care expenses over the summer put a strain on tight budgets, especially because you also tend to need before camp and after camp care to accommodate even a short commute… My 12 year old wants to stay by himself, but I feel like being alone from 8:30-5:30 is a long, lonely way to spend your summer. It’s tough. I wish school was year-round.”
Another mother spoke about the inherent difficulties with sending children to camps as an alternative, saying “Most of the camps I found ran $225 a week… It was like I was waiting for concert tickets. I was like, I will be there — I need this!”
