The Cleaning Supply that Poisons a Child Every 45 Seconds
For the last few months, I’ve been using little laundry pods to clean our clothing. They’re just a handy little tool, but a new study has found how many children this little packet poisons every day.
A study concluded by medical journal Pediatrics has found that children under six are being poisoned by these little laundry packets are on the rise all across the country. The study analzyed just under 63,000 separate emergency calls to poison centers between 2013 and 2014.
Calls regarding the laundry packets accounted for the highest number of calls, on the rise 17% from previous years. In other words? That translates to one child being poisoned by these laundry packets every forty five minutes.
Almost half of those children that have been exposed to the packets end up in a health care facility. These pods account for a majority of the cases, significantly higher than any other kind of detergent.
It’s making me rethink these pods in general. To learn more about the study (and how to properly poision proof you home), check out the full story from babycenter Blog writer Claudia Boyd-Barrett.
