Racing Against Obesity: Schools Have Students Run a Mile a Day
Childhood obesity is one of the leading threats across the world, especially in places like the United States and the United Kingdom. And one school in Scotland has a solution – fifteen minutes of necessary exercise time.
Students at St. Ninians primary school in the town of Stirling have been running a mile a day, every day, for over four years now. Teachers who work at the school say the system doesn’t just make the students healthier, but also improves behavior. And they argue that they don’t even have any obese students. And there’s no specified time to do this work out. The teacher choose the best time during the day to go out and go for a run.
Five hundred schools across the UK have adopted the plan, as part of a nationwide plan to fight childhood obesity. The head-teacher at the school, Elaine Wyllie, said, “The thought of children across the country running every day because of something we’ve done is phenomenal… It’s a common sense approach to children’s fitness, which is free and easy.”
