The Boyfriend/Girlfriend Problem
I remember being a little girl, going to school one day in the first grade, and having my first ‘boyfriend’. We talked about Disney and played during breaks. We held hands, and the furthest we ever got was giving him a little kiss on the cheek. It lasted maybe a week or so, at the most, and was the definition of harmless.
It was a cute, simple thing, a chance to talk to someone I liked and just trying to replicate what we see adults doing every day on TV, in music, and in real life. But a school in Dallas, Texas, is making it a punishable offense.
Holiday heights Elementary School will now give students caught in these “relationships” who does anything as simple as talking about students dating or showing any public displays of affection (up to an including passing love notes in class) will find students in detention, if not outright Saturday school.
I mean… it’s just a simple thing that children growing and expanding their horizons should experience at some point in their life. And it’s worth detention?
