The United Kingdom Decides Against Vacations
When I was a kid, work took my father all around the world. And, as such, we would go days, weeks, sometimes even months without seeing him. No one had a choice in the matter when he had to leave and go somewhere, so there were more than a few missed holidays, birthdays, and celebrations. It was never fun, but something we adjusted to. And one of the ways we did it involved our parents taking us out of school for a few days here and there, so we could enjoy time together.
It may not have been the most responsible thing in the world, given how important education is, but it still mattered. It was still important to see my father and to spend time with him, and so what if we missed a class here or there. But the United Kingdom doesn’t agree. The government has announced their intentions to actually fine parents who are found doing this harmless chance for families to spend time together. And while yes, an education is one of the most important things in the world, so is family.
