Learning (with Minecraft)
My oldest loves Minecraft. Getting him to stop playing, even for dinner or bed, has turned into an actual chore for my husband and myself. And, to be honest, it’s not the worst thing for him to be obsessed with. The cutesy game actually provides a surprising amount of structure for him, letting him build and create whatever he can imagine. The game is essentially electronic LEGOs, and the record will show I am a huge supporter of the building block toys.
So, it’s nice to see companies like Microsoft trying to use the game for good. They’ve just released an educational version of the game, allowing teachers to engage their students with the popular game. In an interview with The Verge, “That includes improving Minecraft’s mapping feature, so that a class can actually find its way around, letting teachers lock in certain resources for students to use…”
