As a parent who ends up having to drive her children around (like well, pretty much every other parent in America), it’s important to have the right kind of gear for every kind of moment. And it can be disconcerting to find out that something you thought was safe, isn’t. And it’s even worse when that thing is so unsafe, it should have never been sold in the first place.

Britax recalled almost 71,000 infant car seats this past week, thanks to a potential fall hazard in the design. It turns out that some of their line (prominently the B-Safe 35 and the B-Safe 35 Elite, and boy are those names ironic) have weakened handles, which have been proven to on occasion, crack and break. This sends the seat falling unexpectedly, and in at least one case, led to an infant falling and hitting the ground – head first. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a report on the problem, and recommends that all parents with such a car seat to send it back immediately.
