Teen Mom star Farrah Abraham has made news headlines multiple times since she first appeared on our TV screens, and rarely for good reasons. But this one is one of the most upsetting.

Abraham will be starring in the upcoming Teen Mom OG (which is a thing, apparently), and is bringing her six year old daughter Sophia along for the ride. In a recent trailer for the show, Sophia exhibited some basic childish attitudes – making pouty faces and generally acting like a brat. Which isn’t great, but par for the course with a six year old.

Farrah instead chastised her daughter for it. On television. To millions and millions of people. She even said during voice over that, “Sometimes you’re immature and selfish, and you don’t think about other people besides yourself…”

Bratty behavior should never be encouraged, but that isn’t what this is about. When a child acts up, you shouldn’t belittle and insult them. That only teaches that these are the best ways to act in real life. Farrah has the right to parent however she wants. Just like I have the freedom to call it stupid.
