The Odds on having a pair of Evens
Twins are one of those occurrences that are rare, but not impossible. Everyone’s met a pair at some point in their life. But what are actually the odds of having a pair yourself?
Identical twins isn’t a genetic trait, it’s merely an occurrence that happens during pregnancy. 33 pairs of twins were born for every 1000 babies in the United States in 2010. Fraternal twins are a genetic trait however, and slightly more common. Just being a bigger woman increases your odds of twins by nearly 1.5. And a lot of it can come from the kind of food you’re eating.
Twins are a blessing (and can sometimes feel like a curse because hey, you used to love sleep too), and their numbers are actually on the rise, both identical and fraternal. So if you’re wondering if you’ve got two buns in the oven, make sure to be getting regular ultrasounds. They’re just the best way to be sure.
