Your Child’s Transition to Daycare
Transitioning from a home environment to a more structured daycare/school environment can be stressful for everyone. One blogger from HelloBee details her experience with the change and a list of 7 ways to make things easier on your family.
Using the time that you have before your child starts at the new school, do the best you can to prepare. Make references to school when you see related items in books and on TV, talk about school activities, and make arrangements to stop by a few days before to introduce your child and familiarize him or her with the environment. Help your child get excited by designating something as their “big kid school” item, such as a backpack.
Be sure to pack familiar items, such as a blanket or stuffed animal, so your child has a comfort item to help with feeling secure. When you get to school for drop-off, don’t sneak out of the room while your child isn’t looking, but don’t linger too long. Be clear that you’re leaving, then make an exit so they can get distracted and calm down. At the end of the day, encourage your child to talk about the fun activities and great people.
