Kids can have hypertension too

Despite common belief, hypertension can be a serious threat to children. In the last decade, the incidence rate for hypertension among children has doubled to 3.5 percent. Hypertension is the term for abnormally high blood pressure and can lead to serious health problems later in life if left undiagnosed and untreated.

Parents need not worry, however. The American Academy of Pediatrics has already issued a new set of guidelines for pediatricians and children age 3 and over will be checked for signs of hypertension when they receive their normal blood pressure checks.
