SIDS more common among Native Americans, blacks

Infants dying from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) have decreased significantly today but there are certain racial groups that still remain at higher risk. Researchers are looking into why Native American and Black infants are at a greater risk for SIDS. A campaign in 1994 urged parents to put their babies to sleep on their backs and this resulted in a decline in SIDS death. Researchers are still unsure why SIDS affects Native American and Black babies more than any other ethic group, but research continues to find answers.
