Family Leave Needs to be Fixed, NOW

The worst part about stories like these is they’re the ones we need to hear the most.

Amber Scorah had made the difficult decision to return to work, after giving birth three months before. She attempted to get an unpaid extension to her maternity leave, but was denied. She either had to return to work now, or be let go. On the first day – THE FIRST DAY – she went back, her son Karl died at day care. She wrote an article for the New York Times Motherlode” section, and uses it as a way to speak out against being forced to leave her child just to keep a means to provide for him.
